Music videos are big business and thanks to technology the
industry is growing, too, in Hollywood
if the 2nd Annual Los Angeles Music Video Festival is any
indication. This year’s LAMVF has been expanded two days with several hundred
entries from nearly three dozen countries. The music video directors and
producers came from all over the world to see their artwork on the big silver screen.
The Music Video premiere and festival was held at the Independent Theater,
downtown Los Angeles
(May 4th and 5th).
(May 4th and 5th).
“In 2011 LAMVF held several music video activities in one
day, this year we have five different categories offered and a late night after
party on Friday and Saturday night,” said Festival founder and artistic
Director Sami Kriegstan. “So it’s bigger, it’s longer and we have more stuff
going on with 300 videos from 32 countries.”
Kriegstan also said LAMVF was “thrilled to have Eric Wareheim, writer,
director and producer the comedy team of
"Tim and Eric
Billion Dollar Movie (2012)". “He brought in a bunch of his
collaborators with him, and show their favorite videos, which was really cool.”
Junior Wright attending the Second Annual LAMVF |
Wright said, “Technology has helped and hurt the industry. It makes the music more accessible, but at the same time it’s hard to sell music, because instead of buying music in stores fans buy it online, but often they expect it to be free. Artists still make money with tours and concerts,” he said.
Wright plans to enter his next video in the 3rd Annual LA Music Video Festival in 2013. His music is at http://www.reverbnation.com/juniorwright. The winning videos are posted online at: http://lamvf.com/.
